Semaj The Poet is a Bay Area native, the product of a preacher and a powerhouse entrepreneur, the oldest of three boys, and a classically trained pianist. He grew up with music in his soul and a relentless pursuit of success in his bones. He started writing and creating music in the early days of his freshmen year in high school. He explored styles ranging from Disney to Kanye West until he created a style uniquely his own. A style that epitomizes the term “Feel Good Music”: no gimmicks, no tricks, just honest-to-goodness positive vibes.
After losing his mother, suddenly, three years ago, Semaj the Poet took that monumental event and used it to fuel his determination to create a legacy; and went all-in on his music career. Using the influences of Prince, Bruno Mars, James Brown, and Phil Collins; Semaj took his refreshing feel-good sound and proved that he can move and groove audiences of all sizes.
He has been signed to three labels and never found his true home. Now as an independent artist, he has been featured on BET jams, VH1 soul, MTV jams and NBC. Also has racked up over 1.5 millions streams on all his groovy music. He is working diligently to explore his electrifying pop/funk sound that promises to enrich the current Bay Area music scene and sweep the globe.
