Las Vegas artist collective TRIBE, also known as TRIBECLAN, has been on the grind since its creation in 2014. Releasing 15 mixtapes in just 5 years TRIBE’s hard work and dedication can be seen in the industry. We had the chance to sit down with group member Christian “Mak” Carter to speak about the collective.
Tell us a little bit about you, what is your business? What do you want the public to know about how your business was created?
TRIBECLAN, TRIBE for short, was created in 2014. It was originally created by Kev and TayFinesse. The brotherhood contains Mak Carter, Dino, Armanii, Teesupreme, 3rd, TayFinesse, Sinoda Beats, and Kev.
I personally fell in love with dance and music in 2006 when I saw Chris Brown on TV, with his hit at the time “Run It”, it was then that I realized saw my dream. Then, in 2007 I began playing trumpet, followed by writing music in 2010 my 8th grade year. Finally, I stared recording in 2012 with the rapper Ali Muhammad aka Ali $uperb at the time and Kev. Our group split in 2014 which led to me eventually joining Kev in making music under TRIBE starting in 2015.
2015 was the official start to my career, having our own studio we were able to push out 15 tapes in a matter of 5 years, 7 of these tapes being the annual Tribe Tapes.
Who have you used as inspiration in building your business?
Our inspiration is Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest, both inspire us to bring a street but rich sound to the wave.
What are you currently working on? What is the next step in your business’s growth?
Tribe just dropped a 21 track album hosted by The Game on July 7th 2020 on all platforms. The next step is to create music videos and to keep pushing the album until the cities open up and we can start doing shows.
If you could collab with anyone else who would it be and why?
If we could collaborate with anyone it’d be Dreamville. They share the same type of vision and their sound is bigger than one genre, as is ours.
What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself if you were just starting your journey?
We would say to keep the family close and chase your dreams!
